ON behalf of the Board of Directors of NAMI NH, THANK YOU community members! Consumers, family members, healthcare staff and citizens around the state shared their interest in supporting our mental health care system by signing NAMI NH’s Citizen's Petition which asked Governor Lynch and the NH State Legislature to reject any budget proposals that further reduce mental health services and focus on raising revenues to balance the state budget. Together, we collected over 4,800 signatures! Thank you to everyone who helped get the word out.
The large stack of Petitions was delivered to Governor Lynch in person by NAMI NH Executive Director, Mike Cohen and a delegation of mental health advocates on Friday, May 7th. The Governor thanked the group for coming; he was impressed with the number of petitions (which he said he will read), listened to our message, recognized our concern, and understood the importance of a sound mental health service system.
Our fight is not over. The system is fragile and budget conditions remain weak as the economy begins to slowly come out of the great recession. Stay involved; work with NAMI NH in assuring access to high quality mental health services.
